It was a perfect day until I tried to get to the East Side shortly after 3PM yesterday. Having had a much needed nap, I did not have time it seemed to walk to meet LXIV (more on that later) and hopped into a cab. Well, it seems Madison and 5th were both afflicted by the curse known as street fairs, CPW was a parking lot and I just arrived on time. I was sputtering and LXIV just smiled when I announced how much I hated a) street fairs b) NYC for allowing them c) street fairs..well, you get the picture…..
The reason for going to the East Side was a performance of Puccini’s final opera, Turandot, a favorite of mine, being done by a small company called DiCapo Opera Theatre. It was great, actually, and kicked off my 41st season of opera going…(is that possible?) The lead is very difficult to sing, and the soprano they engaged (Irina Rindzuner) had the chops…so did everyone else and we thoroughly enjoyed it. If you are in NYC, there are performances this week…..
As a sign of the times, the founder came out at one of the intermissions to plead for funds…he said it was the worst crisis in the company’s quarter century…this will, alas, be a familiar cry……

Superb weather here in Boston. I was a perfect day for me to get out and plant 200+ spring bulbs.
